As experienced, lines with an average of 55 touches are optimally legible but seem to be clumsy. |
On the other hand, you shouldn't go under a line-broadth of 30 touches. Above all justified lines need at least 5 spaces to be set well balanced. |
With a DIN A4-page (or US-letter) and a type size of about 10 point, a column-
broadth between 4,5 and 8 centimeters is an ideal compromize between legibility and optical effect. So you see, that you can't put more than two or three columns on a DIN A4-page. Most of the layouters prefer three-column-setting, because odds always evoque more suspense. The distance between the columns takes usually about 5mm; if there are lines between them, take appropriately more. |
